Fly.io

Fly.io is a cloud platform for deploying and running applications close to users worldwide. It uses hardware-virtualized containers called Fly Machines that launch in under a second across 18 global regions. Supports any language or framework via Docker.

Fly.io uses pure pay-as-you-go pricing with per-second billing. You pay for compute (CPU and RAM), persistent storage (volumes), and network egress. There are no fixed plans or minimum commitments. All organizations require a credit card on file.

Fly.io no longer offers free tier for new customers (discontinued October 2024). New signups get a free trial with limited compute hours. Legacy customers on old Hobby/Launch/Scale plans retain their free allowances (3 shared VMs, 3 GB storage).

Yes, Fly.io offers managed Postgres (Fly Postgres) with automatic failover, read replicas, and point-in-time recovery. Redis (Upstash) is also available. Databases run as Fly Machines and are billed at standard compute and storage rates.

Persistent volumes cost $0.15/GB/month. Volume snapshots cost $0.08/GB/month with the first 10 GB free. Stopped machine rootfs is also charged at $0.15/GB/month. Object storage (Tigris) is available as an extension.

Inbound traffic is free. Outbound (egress) pricing varies by region: $0.02/GB for North America and Europe, $0.04/GB for Asia Pacific and South America, $0.12/GB for Africa and India. Private cross-region traffic is cheaper.

Machine Reservations let you save 40% by paying annually for compute. For example, a $144/year performance reservation gives $20/month in compute credits. Available for both shared ($36-$3,600/year) and performance ($144-$14,400/year) machines.

Yes, Fly.io automatically provisions SSL certificates for custom domains. The first 10 single hostname certificates per organization are free. Additional single hostname certificates cost $0.10/month, wildcards cost $1/month.

Yes, Fly Kubernetes (FKS) is available at $75/month per cluster plus standard compute and volume costs. It provides a managed Kubernetes control plane that runs workloads on Fly Machines across global regions.
